My System Wont Lock On
Probably the most common and frustrating satellite system issue !
Typically this can be the result of a few easy to resolve problems as follows:-
- Does the system lock on to any other satellites other than the standard UK Astra 28 ?
Try selecting the option on your control panel / App to swap satellite and try and lock on to Astra 1 or Hotbird Satellite as either of these with clear line of site to sky should be possible in the UK.If your system will lock on ok to these satellites but not Astra 28 then it’s most likely in need of a Satellite Transponder Frequency Update.
- If it won’t lock on to any satellite then it could be any of the following:-
Low Leisure Battery Voltage (check and charge your battery)
Faulty Cable / Connection between satellite control box and the satellite system on the roof. (If you have a multimeter can check continuity of the cabling / use a long test cable to bypass the coax cabling)
Faulty LNB
If your system needs a satellite update then you can find your nearest Oyster Service Agent using this page:-

Alternatively some systems can be updated easily yourself. Go to the Ten-Haaft Updates Page and select which system you have on the left and the update procedure is documented on the right.
Some systems can be done simply using options on the control panel, Oyster V systems can be updated using the Smartphone App.
Finally some of the older Oyster systems may need you to download software on to a USB stick and then insert this into the control panel.
All the processes are listed on the Ten-Haaft site
